Angolan ccTLD Authority Licenses ExpanTLD as International Registrar to Strengthen Relationships with Foreign Entities and Expand the .AO Domain

Luanda, Angola – August 20, 2024 – The Angolan ccTLD authority has taken a significant step in enhancing the international presence and management of the .AO domain by licensing ExpanTLD as a dedicated international registrar. This strategic decision aims to facilitate the expansion of .AO domain registrations among foreign entities and streamline the management of domain assets for international customers. ExpanTLD.com holds the exclusive license to conduct co.ao and it.ao domain ownership verifications for non-angolan registrants and resellers.

Facilitating the Recovery of Domains and Ensuring Compliance

During the implementation of the new core-system, the ccTLD authority disconnected several unofficial online stores, resulting in the need for recovery and re-registration of domains formerly managed through unlicensed channels. These domains require proof of ownership and a formal re-registration process to restore them to good standing. Domestically, this process was simplified through real-time verification with national identification registries.

Starting September 1st 2024, ExpanTLD will be the exclusive channel to extend these services internationally, offering:
  • Convenient Recovery for Legitimate Domain Owners: ExpanTLD will provide an accessible and efficient process for legitimate owners of former co.ao and it.ao domains to recover their assets and bring them back to compliance.
  • Flexible Payment Options: Re-registration, renewals, and other services can be settled in all major currencies using major credit cards, PayPal, Multicaixa, or SEPA bank transfers.
  • English Language Support: To accommodate international clients, ExpanTLD will provide support services in English, ensuring clear communication and assistance throughout the recovery and management processes.
This initiative reflects the ccTLD authority’s commitment to maintaining a secure, compliant, and user-friendly .AO domain ecosystem that meets the needs of both local and international stakeholders.

Commenting on this new initiative, the General Manager of INFOSI, Eng. André Pedro, said:

"It is gratifying to witness the daily strengthening of the .AO domain as a national business ecosystem. This month, we have reached the milestone of 10 independent, official resellers, both national and international, who are competing in our domain market while adhering to principles of mutual respect and legal compliance. INFOSI will continue to introduce new developments in the coming weeks, further enhancing our journey to foster an information society with even more innovation and safety for all.”
